The main contribution of Matusalem to the history of rums was the adoption of the Solera method to age the rum. In 1872 the first Matusalem was made under the premise of creating the smoothest rum ever tasted. Its creators, with experience in the production of brandies and cognacs, implemented this new method for rums. This is none other than the flagship of the franchise, the Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 . Born in Cuba and now distilled in the Dominican Republic, it has a complex yet smooth character, perfect to enjoy on its own. It stands out for its notes of wood, with certain dry qualities and a hint of butter. It is one of the rums with the lowest amount of sugar per liter: only 5.7 grams.
