Pago de Carraovejas El Anejón 2019 75 cl.
Alma CarraovejasBodegas Pago de Carraovejas elaborates this aged red wine in the D.O. Ribera del Duero (España) with tempranillo, merlot y cabernet sauvignon grapes.
Description
El Anejon is harmony on the nose and elegance on the palate with a delicate mineral touch and a balsamic background; a vineyard from which a delicate and intense character emerges. Its floral perfume reflects the exceptional richness of the vineyard from which it comes.
HARVEST
The 2019 vintage was characterized by a cold winter with little rainfall. Thanks to the abundant rainfall in 2018, the vineyard retained a water reserve that led to perfect development throughout the vine cycle. Budding and flowering developed in a balanced manner for each of the estate's varieties. Veraison and ripening began around mid-August and the berries grew very uniformly. Harvest began on September 18, when the earliest variety, Merlot, was harvested, followed by Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, which were harvested on October 6.
VINEYARD
The terraces of the El Anejón plot welcome the Carraovejas Valley. Its sloping terrain makes it a natural amphitheater in front of the privileged views of the Peñafiel castle. It is one of the first terraced plots in Ribera del Duero and one of the few examples of terraced vineyards in the entire appellation. The soil of its terraces has a very compact limestone-loam texture. 9.43 hectares of vineyard on austere soils with a marked slope that rises from 800 meters above sea level in the lowest zone to 840 meters above sea level in the highest zone. The adjustment of yields in the vineyard and an extraordinary balance between the vines, the vintage and the soil distinguish the origin of this wine. El Anejón is made only in exceptional vintages.
WINEMAKING
After an exhaustive monitoring during the ripening cycle and after an initial selection in the vineyard, the grapes are harvested by hand in small boxes. The bunches go through a cold chamber and selection table where a second control of the bunch and a third of the berry itself is carried out. Careful vatting and separate vinification in small French oak vats seek to enhance the singularities of the terroir. Aging is carried out in new oak in new 600-liter French oak barrels of extra-fine grain for 12 months. For greater protection, the wine contains sulfites. The 2019 vintage of El Anejón was bottled in the spring of 2021.
