Macán is a modern and very personal look at the high expression and top quality wines of the DOCa Rioja. It is a commitment to finesse, elegance, complexity and power. It is the flagship of Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia, the project initiated by Tempos Vega Sicilia and Compañía Vinícola Edmond de Rothschild in 2004.

Macan is made solely from Tempranillo grapes. It is grapes from a careful selection of old plots settled on high terraces and poor soils, gravelly, poorly evolved and of a clay-limestone nature.

Macán 2019, a full-bodied, juicy, firm vintage, a bit shy but with a lot of potential to develop.


This wine is suitable for drinking at present, but has a cellaring potential of 15 years if kept in optimal conditions: 12-14 ºC and 60% relative humidity.

Best consumed at 18 ºC

About Bodegas Benjamín de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia

Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia was born in 2004 as a result of the union of Tempos Vega Sicilia and the Barón Edmond de Rothschild Wine Company. Both firms share the idea of making great wines in Rioja, a unique, singular, inimitable wine region. After a period of five years of study of terroirs and acquisition of vineyards, the project takes shape in 2009: it is the first vintage of the winery's two wines, Macán and Macán Clásico.

Currently, Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia owns 92 hectares of vineyards, with Tempranillo as the predominant variety. They are all located in the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria, north of the Ebro River, distributed among the municipalities of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Labastida, Ábalos and Elvillar.

The philosophy is to offer a modern and particular vision of Rioja elaborations following the Bordeaux model of first and second wine.
