Description
The Tokaj area is located in a mountain range that occupies the northeastern part of Hungary. Oremus Winery is located in its geographical center. The elaboration of Aszú wine (tear wine) is a meticulous process that is only possible in good vintages and very special conditions that favor the development of "Botrytis cinerea" (noble rot).
It is still based on the measures of hundreds of years ago, adding to the base must, 5 baskets (puttonyos) with 25 kg of Aszú noble berries harvested one by one and covered with Botrytis.
The grapes are macerated for 12-24 hours until they increase in size, then lightly pressed. Fermentation takes place in new Hungarian oak barrels. It is a slow process that can last up to a month. The aging phase is completed during two or more years in 136 and 220 liter barrels, and ends with 2-3 more years in the bottle.
Aszú 5 Puttonyos is a wine where the objective is to represent the best balance between acidity and sugar that the vintage can give us. In this sense it is the perfect wine to keep and then compare vintages in vertical tastings.
A very bright yellow color characterizes this 2017 vintage with floral fragrances and citrus notes in the mouth. The vintage has given us a balance where sweetness is the protagonist and freshness is completing the sensation.
